Doggie Sweater!

Complete with pictures and everything! How terribly exciting!

This is Yazoo the Chihuahua. He is fat and approximately.... 10 years old. And I loves him! He is ambivalent about his sweater. He hates to put it on, but he loves how warm it is. As a tiny dog in Northern Ohio he needs all the help he can get.

Ambrrr out!

I'm still sort of a liar, but pictures at last!!

So, about that whole "Monkey" thing... not happening for a while. Stupid stupid JoAnns, and their lack of no2 DPNs. I mean, who stocks 1.5 and 2.5 DPNs in sets of 4, but not a set of 5 2s?! MADNESS! SHEER MADNESS. And for some reason the order I put in at KnitPicks didn't go through. So... I'll be trying that again after the new year. Wheee!

PCITURE TIME!

Since I was already in the store I decided to get the yarn to do Caliometry, using Paton's SWS in Natural Blue, which apparently stands for Soy Wool Stripes. More like Stupid Wooly String. Anywhoo, it's 70% wool and 30% soy, in a skein of 100 m/110 yds and 80 g/2.8 oz. While the striping turned out amazing, the yarn itself had the tendency to pull apart. I hated it, and have no idea what I'm going to do with the like, 10 feet I have left. Maybe a really crappy pompom?

So here's me wearing the Ravenclaw Scarf, ends all woven in and fringe added! Wheee! I'm also modeling Caliometry, which doesn't have ends woven in or the button yet. At the time it was safety-pinned to my head.

More of the same.

Close-up of Caliometry. How mexciting!

Well, pictures of Yazoo in his sweater coming soon. Have a Happy New Year, y'all!

I may have lied.

My next official project (I have completed the paperwork and everything) is going to be ...... (drumroll).... Monkey, from the Winter '06 issue of Knitty!

I KNOW!! Not only is it a SOCK (fear!) but it is done on US No 2s (horrors!!)!!! What am I thinking?! And why am I using so many exclaimation marks?! !!!

I confess that Cookie herself had some part in this decision. Or rather, her picture. Look at her! She is tiny and adorable, and clearly having a lot of fun making that sock. SO I WILL TOO. I'm dyeing my hair blue too. Oh, that may have been another lie.

The Ravenclaw scarf just needs ends woven in. I'd post pictures, but I hate my camera. I think I might get a new one. Ooops, yet another lie. :D

Merry Christmas

hello! i just read ambrr's latest post, and apparently she has been reading my mind. I am dying to try Eunny's Endpaper mitts. I printed the pattern and drool over it frequently.
Anyways, I've returned for a holiday journey to Tennessee to see some family. I was fairly productive in the knitting department. I finished the mittens in time to stuff them in my mommy's stocking. Sadly there are no pictures of the completed pair because I finished them at the last possible moment (surprise, surprise).
I also started on my very own Harry Potter scarf. Let me tell you how big a dork I am. I wanted a Harry Potter scarf after I knit my brother one last year, but of course I've recognized the fact that I could never be in Gryffindor. I'm just not that cool. So, after careful consideration and a few too many online quizzes, I decided I'm most definitely a Hufflepuff (How lame is that?) so I started my Hufflepuff scarf. It's black and yellow, and I have hopes of acquiring a patch to put on it. I'm pretty excited.
Speaking of excited, I've been comissioned to knit a Harry Potter scarf for a friend of my brother. It's going to be very cool. Time consuming, but cool.

Oh Lordy.

OK, so even though we have established that I have about 4 more repeats to do on this Ravenclaw scarf (photos soon, I promise!) and Marilyn's hardwarmers to finish (which I stupidly forgot in NOLA, and will have to finish like the second I get back), here are some patterns I want to try soon!

- Eunny's Endpaper Mitts (never mind that I am terrified of any needle under a 6, I'm convinced it'll take years to finish it)
- Caliometry from Knitty (what in the name of Buddha is a short row?! Hopefully this will help me out.)
- Queen of All Cosmos earmuffs!

OK, that's enough nonsense from me for now.

Oh Winter Break

Hello! So, I'm back home in Tulsa for winter break. It's cold. Well, not really I guess, but colder than New Orleans for sure. Well, anyways, I've been here for a little over a day, so of course I've accomplished something knit related (while accomplishing nothing else that I needed to). I realized earlier today that I needed to make my mom something for Christmas, so I headed to a yarn store I had never been to before. It was nice, but I think nothing compares to my love for Garden District Needlework. I picked up some wool in a beautiful turquoise. It's Mission Falls' 1824 Wool. I really like it. I was knitting with some Mission Falls cotton a couple of weeks ago, and I really liked that too, so maybe the brand is just awesome or something. Well, anyways, I bought some beautiful wool and decided to make some beautiful mittens for my beautiful mommy. I have this really easy mitten pattern that someone gave me when I learned mittens this summer, and I added a simple cable down the middle. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I've used the mitten pattern/ cable combination pattern before on some really cute mittens I made for one of my suitemates. I wanted to do a more complicated cable, but I wasn't in the mood to try and fine one. Oh well. I love it the way it is. I'm not so excited about making the other one tomorrow. That tends to be my problem with making pairs of things - I never want to do the second one. I need to get it done tomorrow though, so I'm sure I will. I'm pretty excited about the knitting I'm anticipating doing over the rest of the break. I might have an offer to sell a scarf, so that might be the first thing I have to do, but it's not for sure yet. I'd also like to start something big and complicated to test out my skills. Either a sweater or the most adorable baby dress I've ever seen from the awesome "Knitting for Babies" magazine I purchased at the grocery store and have since been in love with. It's a tough choice. We'll see what happens. Be sure to look for frequent updates, as I have nothing more important than my knitting for the next four weeks. <3>

I swear I am not dead.

OK, even though it looks like Uhlissa killed me and took over the BHnPKS, this is a lie. I am still alive! A little. I'm finally home (Northeast Ohio) for winter break, so I'm looking forward to finishing the Ravenclaw scarf this week and perhaps even starting a little lace. Or something. Branching Out looks neat. But I did do a little more of the scarf on the plane ride here.

I don't know what this fetish I have with knitting in public is all about. Perhaps I just find it amusing to turn that preconceived notion of only old ladies and spinsters knitting on its head. Then again, I am an old lady/spinster. Oh well.

Alrighty, two Issues of Contemporary Architecture final essays to complete and then I am done with first semester! Whooo! Whooo. ... Aw, man.

Lace!

So, I was supposed to be studying for my final that's in the morning, so naturally I've been knitting. I decided I wanted to learn something new and I chose lace. The pattern I'm using is Knitty's Branching Out. I'm using some fun yellow yarn I had sitting around and some nice size 8 needles. Check out the progress I've made so far, while watching some Law and Order. I'm really happy with how the lace is working out. I was a little terrified of all the new things I didn't know, but I think I've got it mostly figured out.

Knitting as Procrastination

So, in my attempt not to learn anything today, I knit. I should be studying for my finals, but where's the fun in that? So, I worked on a baby bootie that needs to be finished this week. And then I made a letter 'm'. I don't remember why, but at some point last week one of my friends decided I should knit them an 'm', so I did. It's very cute and it was fun, and good practice of intarsia (I think). He loved it and apparently it's getting hung on his wall. Tomorrow I really need to start studying, which means I'll probably finish the baby booties if they don't get finished tonight. I promise pictures soon of the projects I've finished recently.

Finally Finished

So, a couple of months ago, one of my best friends asked me to knit him a scarf, and of course I agreed to. If only I had known it would become the "never ending scarf of doom." It actually wasn't that bad, I just couldn't find the motivation to work on it. Well, anyways, I finally finished, and it's quite lovely (there will be pictures soon!). It was just a basic 1x1 rib with stripes every 10 rows. For some reason it went so slowly. It might have been the fact that I was knitting on 8s, I'm not sure. I still have ends to weave in from all the stripes, but it looks like he'll actually get his present before we leave for winter break.
Yea!

Knitting at work, what fun!

Since I work at our University's Card Services office, I tend to do my homework and knit in between making new cards and whatnot. Today I brought my Ravenclaw scarf, which I modified from the pattern here to be a 1x1 rib, and 45 sts long instead of 90. Also, I'm knitting it flat (hence the 1x1 rib) instead of in the round. So essentially .... I've kept the color scheme and number of row repeats. And possibly the fringe. :D

People tend to look at you funny when you knit in public. This may also have something to do with the fact that I brought my new iDog, Bleu, and am playing Christmas music rather loudly though him. But I've gotten a lot of compliments on the scarf so far. Only 7 more repeats of 27MC, 3CC, 5MC, 3CC to go, whoo hoo! That is actually probably a lie. It's more like 8. I hope. God, this scarf is taking a while. Ok, time to work on an axonometric drawing. By which I most likely mean "knit some more."

Also, I have been reminded that dearest Uhlissa visited me earlier and wound a ridiculous skein of yarn into a manageable yarn ball for me. God bless Uhlissa. I tried to do this earlier and nearly destroyed the entire thing. For some godforsaken reason the end of the yarn was nowhere to be found, until the entire yarn ball was essentially done. Ridiculous. Then again, I DID pay about four American dollars for the thing. Whoo cheap acrylic yarn!

Yea! Knitting Blog

ohmygod. Best day ever! Knitting store adventures, Mexican food lunch, fishbowl of buttons at the quilt cottage, and now our very own knitting blog! We've been formulating this idea in our minds for weeks, and now we're actually doing it, and I'm soooo excited.

-uhlissa

As my crazy bestest friend Uhlissa has stated, this is the very very very beginning of our knitblog! We like knitting. And we like you. I guess. I mean, you haven't done anything to make us sad yet.
Soon we'll have posts with our current projects and pretty pictures! Aren't you excited?! I am!! Exclaimation marks!!

- LOVE, Ambrrr
